Ruth Van Sweden-Altes

Ruth Van Sweden-Altes has been riding for her lifetime and began training in 1988. Ruth is originally from New Mexico but moved her training and lesson business to California in 1996. During her career she has competed at the state, regional, and national level. She has either ridden or trained to win, 12 World Championships and 6 Reserve World Championships at Quarter Horse, Palomino, Buckskin and Morgan World Shows. In such events as: Working Cowhorse, Trail, Western Riding, Reining, Hunter Hack, Working Hunter, and Jumping.
Ruth has been teaching western riding clinics in Europe since 1995 and has served as a horse show judge in Texas, New Mexico and California. Ruth holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from New Mexico State University, with a strong veterinary science background. She ran a successful Quarter Horse breeding program for 15 years. She offers a varied and diverse training program in both English and Western style of riding. She has carried her knowledge and experience into the wilderness and trails, leading packing and outfitting and trail riding excursions and training since 1992. She has successfully run youth summer horsemanship camps in the past and she was also the official trainer for the San Francisco Mounted Police Unit. Ruth, her husband Matt Altes and two sons Colton and Wyatt now reside in Windsor, CA.
