Erin & Left Coast Ponies |
Erin started out riding at Webb Ranch, and soon after joined the Portola Valley Pony Club. She and her mare then went on to their fair share of wins in the hunter/jumper arena, particularly in Equitation Over Fences. They competed frequently at local shows, and at rated shows when made possible by stall-cleaning-income or parental splurges. As Erin recovered from spine surgery, she and her mare transitioned into Western riding. They continued to compete succcessfully in their new discipline.
Erin had the good fortune to ride under several accomplished and talented trainers, both hunt seat and Western.
After a brief hiatus from riding, Erin reconnected with her mare and together they headed out to a school in Colorado which offered a Horse Training program. This was excellent hands-on exposure to halter-training yearlings, starting two-year-olds under saddle, and continuing rail-work on green-broke colts. It was a unique college experience: final exams consisted of loping circles, doing rollbacks, and opening gates on the colts started that semester, while textbooks consisted of Western Horseman books and vet manuals. After completing the program, Erin hacked clients' horses for established trainers and free-lanced along the Peninsula. She ran group lessons for the Foothill College horseback riding program, in addition to running kids Summer Camps.
During 2002, Erin traveled to the North Island of New Zealand and worked for a Grand Prix showjump rider and at several track barns.
Since beginning her "Left Coast" business in 2006, Erin has been riding, showing, and coaching with a wonderful group of horses and humans.
